Hi my name’s Vitaliy. I’m a NYC resident who has been actively exploring amazing places outside the five borough area since the early 2000’s and even though it’s been over 20 years since I started doing it, I’m still shocked by just how many amazing adventures, day trips, sights and attractions lie right outside the NYC area. We’re talking waterfalls, hikes, museums, castles and many more places that make for amazing day/weekend trips and adventures and to my constant surprise, most native NYC residents I show these places to have no clue they actually exist!
My entry into this world outside the NYC area started nearly 20 years ago when I first discovered the Catskill Mountains which are only a 3 hour drive from the city. I began exploring them several times a year and overtime slowly started expanding my scouting to places further and closer to the city and what I quickly discovered is that there’s really countless places worth visiting near NYC that offer a wide variety of adventures, some only 30 minutes to several hours from the city.
And although I’ve explored many other states and places across the US (west coast, south west, east coast states, Canada, etc…), I’m here to tell you that the beauty in the places I’ve found near NYC in many cases put those other ones to shame. To this day I’m still finding new places and expanding my horizons outside NYC and the truth is that no matter which direction you exit the city, there’s almost surely some sort of adventure awaiting you close by.
This website documents these places (and they are mostly outdoor/nature spots) and to date there’s literally 100s of them that I’ve explored. On this site I’ll show you exactly what my top recommendations are, how to get there from the city and give you specific itinerary ideas of what to do when you get there. So whether you’re a NYC resident or just someone visiting the city looking to broaden your horizons, I’ve got you covered.
And on top of that what I recommend isn’t some basic stuff, it’s places/attractions whose beauty will shock you and make you feel like you’re in a different world. In fact you may get to a point like I did that when you share these adventures with other NYC residents, they simply won’t believe that they:
